The Ghost Of Memory Hill

I saw a ghost on memory hill, walking through a garden of flowers with white roses and daffodils
He watched the sunset beyond the fields
I turned my car around, he watched as I got out
He looked a little uneasy, but he managed a smile as I sat down
He said, everyday I think about these souls
This girl she loved the moonlight, and she wrote the prettiest poems
But those aren't the kinds of things you can read on tombstones

He said if this is heaven, it's not what I expected
If this is hell then it's not so bad
If this is just a graveyard in Southern Alabama
Then I guess my last wish came true

I walked beside him on Memory Hill
He said you may not understand this now, but someday you will
The only thing that matters is the sunset beyond these fields
Some angels found me here, said they'd come to take me home
They promised me every dream, but I couldn't take just one white rose
They said the stars would shine the same, but I'd see them from a different place
I'd see them in a different way, so I asked if I could stay

He said if this is heaven, it's not what I expected
If this is hell then it's not so bad
If this is just a graveyard in Southern Alabama
Then I guess my last wish came true

The ghost of Memory Hill, walks through a garden of flowers, white roses and daffodils
Every night he watches the sunset beyond the fields
