On The Alabama Plains

It started on College Street, out by the interstate
New gas stations, strip malls, motels and banks
Everywhere that you look now they're building her up
To look like a bigger town, but it's becoming too much

When I walk down these streets on any beautiful night
I feel like I'm living in a much simpler time
Family and friends, football and faith
That's what started this town and what still makes it great
We can't stop the changes, but our hearts remain
True to the town that we love here on the Alabama plains

The winter's are easy, the spring is so green
The summer's are quiet, at night even the streets go to sleep
But they sure wake up quickly on an autumn afternoon
People line the streets along Magnolia Avenue

When I walk down these streets on any beautiful night
I feel like I'm living in a much simpler time
Family and friends, football and faith
That's what started this town and what still makes it great
We can't stop the changes, but our hearts remain
True to the town that we love here on the Alabama plains

I wish I'd been here, I wish I'd seen
When this town was just churches and two downtown streets
And there was still as much pride to say you came from this place
The loveliest village on the Alabama plains

When I walk down these streets on any beautiful night
I feel like I'm living in a much simpler time
Family and friends, football and faith
That's what started this town and what still makes it great
Time keeps on moving, but our hearts remain
True to the town that we love here on the Alabama plains
